    1873-CC Trade Dollar, MS62
    Elusive Mint State Example

1873-CC T$1 MS62 PCGS. Collectors of the Trade dollar series run up against stiff competition for the Carson City issues, which enjoy extra demand from CC-Mint specialists and branch mint enthusiasts alike. Moreover, Trade dollar production and popularity was rooted in the West, where the China trade absorbed most of the San Francisco and Carson City production. The 1873-CC is the second most-elusive Trade dollar behind the 1878-CC, both in terms of mintage and survivorship. Almost all of the 124,500-piece mintage was exported and lost to the melting pots, never to return into the hands of collectors. The 1872-CC is especially scarce in any Mint State condition.

This lustrous and frosty example is nearly untoned, with a faint glint of champagne-gold over the silver surfaces. A few light marks account for the assigned grade, yet the strike is generally sharp with only minor incompleteness at Liberty's foot and the eagle's right (facing) leg. Cartwheel mint luster adds to the strong eye appeal. Population: 18 in 62, 17 finer (8/16).(Registry values: N4719)

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
