Select Mint State 1873-CC Trade Dollar
Lovely Coin From a Landlocked State

1873-CC T$1 MS63 PCGS. CAC. Since the nominal point of the Trade dollar was to send it into overseas commerce, it seems curious that one of the mints to strike it was Carson City, capital of the landlocked state of Nevada. Of course, when one considers that the actual point of the Trade dollar was to create more demand for domestic silver and the Comstock Lode was producing large quantities of said silver, CC-mint Trade dollars make more sense.
This is a surprising Select survivor from the initial 1873-CC issue, boldly cartwheeled with toning that ranges from pale gold-gray to deep apricot depending on the angle to the light. Typical strike softness appears on Liberty's head and the eagle's claws, though most of the stars are sharper than usual.
