Gorgeous Gem 1873-S Trade Dollar
1873-S T$1 MS65 NGC. A first-year Trade dollar out of San Francisco, beautifully lustrous with strong silver swirls beneath a delicate layer of intermittent golden toning. The devices are better-defined than usually seen, particularly at the obverse margins. Easily one of the best-preserved examples of this first-year San Francisco issue. Ordinarily, collectors point to first-year dates as likely candidates to have been saved by private individuals, but with the specifically commercial nature of the Trade dollar, this potential source of high-grade survivors is less prominent than for other series.
