    Description

    1874 Trade Dollar, Clean MS65
    Condition Census Representative

1874 T$1 MS65 NGC. Most of the 987,140 Trade dollars coined at Philadelphia in 1874 were exported to China, where they were widely chopmarked and heavily melted. CoinFacts believes that only 175 examples survive in all Uncirculated grades. The 1874 is very rare at the Gem grade level with only six submissions each at NGC and PCGS. NGC has seen just a single example finer, while PCGS reports two finer representatives (6/15).

Mottled golden-russet toning lightly colors this still-brilliant Gem, with frosty mint luster illuminating each side. The devices are irregularly struck with softness around the obverse peripheries and on the eagle's right (facing) claw. Exceptionally clean surfaces are devoid of any singularly distracting marks.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 252Z, PCGS# 7034)

    Weight: 27.22 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
