Description

1875 Trade Dollar, MS64
Type Two Reverse
Near-Gem with Elegant Luster

1875 T$1 MS64 NGC. CAC. Type Two Reverse. A transitional issue for the year, this is one of the first Philadelphia Trade dollars to show the revised Type Two reverse with no berry under the eagle's claw, the lowest arrowhead ending over the 2 in 420 rather than the 0, and so on. Though softly struck, this piece has no trace of wear but plenty of luster, understated on the satiny rose-gray obverse and brighter on the reverse with occasional glimpses of flash. Census: 16 in 64, 11 finer (9/13).

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
