Description
1876-CC Trade Dollar, MS61
Doubled Die Reverse, FS-801
Rare in Mint State
1876-CC T$1 Doubled Die Reverse, FS-801, MS61 NGC. VP-001.
Tall CC. Type One Obverse and Reverse. This doubled die variety has
long been pursued by Trade dollar specialists. Although the first
hubbing was relatively light, the spread between hubbings is
dramatic. The pick-up point is the branch above FINE. Strong
doubling exists on the branches, the eagle, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and
the legends. Scarce in Mint State, this is among the nicest known
examples. The devices and legends shimmer with luster, and the
borders display the ocean-blue and plum-red shades. Close
inspection beneath a loupe locates only minor marks on the
partially prooflike fields, mostly near the left scroll end and at
900. Census: 5 in 61, 3 finer (11/16).Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2008), lot 2180; FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2009), lot 3978.
