Description

1876-CC Trade Dollar, FS-801, MS62
Rare Doubled Die Reverse Variety

1876-CC T$1 Doubled Die Reverse, FS-801, MS62 ANACS. Type One Obverse and Reverse. Dramatically doubled on the right branches, the eagle's talons, the right wing tip, and the eagle's beak. Doubling is also seen on E PLURIBUS UNUM and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. According to the Fifth Edition of the Cherrypickers' Guide, Volume II: "Considered by most to be the strongest reverse doubled die in the series, this variety is one of the highlights of the trade dollar varieties and is thought to be extremely rare in grades above AU. Counterfeits are common; beware."

This example is lustrous and lightly toned in mottled hues of champagne, russet, and steel-gray. Boldly struck and free of all but the most trivial surface defects. A faint reeding mark is noted in the obverse field area just to the left of Liberty's knee.
