Doubled Die Reverse, FS-801
Extremely Rare in Mint State
1876-CC T$1 Doubled Die Reverse, FS-801, MS62 PCGS. This
crisply struck, beautifully patinated Carson City Trade dollar
displays mild field reflectivity. Each side shows rich toning in
orange-gold and aquamarine with occasional unobtrusive field
abrasions.Variety: Type One Obverse and Reverse. Tall CC. This Guide Book doubled die variety shows doubling most prominently on the eagle's branch and beak.
Population Data (9/15): Doubled Die Reverse examples include two submissions in MS62 (one MS62+) and three in MS63 at PCGS. NGC has seen three submissions in MS62 and none finer.
Heritage Commentary: The fifth edition of the Cherrypickers' Guide notes: "Considered by most to be the strongest reverse doubled die in the series, this variety is one of the highlights of the trade dollar varieties and is thought to be extremely rare in grades above AU." Variety enthusiasts should bid accordingly.
