Outstanding Type Two Obverse 1876-S Trade Dollar

1876-S T$1 MS66 NGC. Breen-5803. Type Two Obverse and Reverse. Minute S. Lightly toned in sky-blue and chestnut hues. It is true that the strike is exceptionally sharp, and the cartwheel luster is intense. But the greatest attribute of the present Premium Gem is its surface preservation, which is outstanding. Even trivial marks are hard to find. Also of interest is the Type Two obverse subtype, identified by the downward-pointing scroll end. This constitutes a slender minority of 1876-S trade dollars, most of which have a Type One obverse, with a left-pointing scroll end. Breen pronounced the Type Two Obverse as "Very rare" in his 1988 Encyclopedia. Bowers (1993) more conservatively assesses Breen-5803 as "Scarce." Census: 3 in 66, 0 finer (1/06).(Registry values: N7079)

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
