Description

Notable Near-Gem 1877-CC Trade Dollar

1877-CC T$1 MS64 PCGS. CAC. The striking of Trade dollars at the Carson City Mint in thoroughly landlocked Nevada made little sense from the perspective of international commerce, though it did make the Mint a heavy customer for the silver coming out of the Comstock Lode and other mining sources. This is among the best-preserved 1877-CC Trade dollars in existence, beating out all but a handful of the coins in a mintage of more than half a million dollars. Blue and lilac tints grace a gray base, while the luminous margins have more gold-orange overtones. Overall detail is excellent, and only a couple of stars show any weakness in the centers. Population: 10 in 64, 2 finer (2/12).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 253D, PCGS# 7045, Greysheet# 7381)

Weight: 27.22 grams

Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
