Description

1877-CC Trade Dollar, MS64
Extremely Rare Any Finer

1877-CC T$1 MS64 PCGS. Only 534,000 Trade dollars were struck at the Carson City Mint in 1877. All but 3,000 of the coins were produced in June, July, and August, supposedly for export to China. Contemporary newspaper accounts indicate some of the coins circulated domestically, however, although they were not popular with the general public. Certainly few examples were saved in high grade, and the 1877-CC is a prime condition rarity in grades above the MS64 level.

This impressive Choice example exhibits well-detailed design elements, with just a touch of softness on the upper stars and Liberty's hair. The well-preserved surfaces show only minor signs of contact, with subtle hints of golden-tan and lavender toning. Satiny mint luster adds to the outstanding eye appeal. Population: 12 in 64 (1 in 64+), 2 finer (7/17).(Registry values: N4719)
