Description

1877-S Trade Dollar, MS62
Doubled Die Reverse

1877-S T$1 Doubled Die Reverse, FS-801, MS62 PCGS. Large S. The Cherrypickers' reference calls this doubled die reverse "a highlight of the trade dollar varieties," as it should be with such a bold spread -- visible most plainly on E PLURIBUS UNUM and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. This is the only Mint State example attributed by PCGS (10/15), although additional Uncirculated pieces likely exist within the standard population figures. This coin is sharply struck and displays satiny luster with golden-gray toning. No major abrasions are observed.
