Description

1877-S Trade Dollar, MS65
Ideal High-End Type Coin

1877-S T$1 MS65 NGC. Large S. Just a year before the Trade dollar met its end as a coin produced for commerce, San Francisco set a record for production, pumping out more than 9.5 million 1877-S coins. While the coins were meant to circulate overseas and many did, it is hardly surprising that a handful of exceptional survivors should have come out of so large a mintage. This Gem is among them, a pleasingly detailed piece with hints of pink and pale gray patina over sweeping cartwheel luster. Three shallow reed marks just to the left of star 11 on the obverse contribute to the grade.
