Description

Bold Near-Gem 1878-S Trade Dollar

1878-S T$1 MS64 PCGS. CAC. Counting the 1878 Morgan and Trade types, San Francisco made about 14 million silver dollars all told, twice as many of the former. And like the 1878-S Morgans, the 1878-S Trade dollars generally show excellent production values. This near-Gem example shows the usual bold strike, with generous luster and a light partial overlay of lilac and blue-gray on the obverse. An excellent potential acquisition for a type or year set. Population: 80 in 64, 35 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N2998)
