Reflective Gem Mint State 1878-S Trade Dollar

1878-S T$1 MS66 NGC. This is the final year of the regular issue Trade dollars. The surfaces are toned with a blush of light gold spread evenly over the bright silver-gray imparted by the Mint. Reflective in the fields, as this coin was perhaps an early strike soon after the dies were polished up, leaving the fields with a slightly mirrored finish instead of the more commonly seen satiny texture. Despite having delicate reflective fields, there are very few handling marks, this is worth pointing out as the large open fields of the Trade dollar tend to attract bagmarks, especially so when they are slightly mirrored. Fully struck as usual for a Trade dollar, with minimal softness on Liberty's head and the right claw of the eagle, but with all the stars showing their radial lines. As nice as this date is normally found and a coin that would make a welcome addition to an advanced collection. Population: 17 in 66, 0 finer (10/05).
