    1878-S Trade Dollar, MS66
    Golden-Brown Border Toning

1878-S T$1 MS66 PCGS. Peach-gold and apple-green toning endows the margins of this otherwise brilliant high-grade type coin. Precisely struck and highly lustrous with a pristine reverse and minimal obverse contact. Die variety researchers should take note of the die lump on the border of the left (facing) wing and a flat curved projection (as made) from the border of the right wing. 1878 was the final year of business strikes. 4,162,000 pieces were struck at San Francisco prior to the arrival of Morgan dollar dies. PCGS has certified 15 MS66 coins and an additional 10 MS66+ pieces with only three pieces finer (7/16).(Registry values: N7079)
