Condition Rarity 1877-CC Trade Dollar, MS64 NGC

1877-CC T$1 MS64 NGC. There is a blanket of silver-gray patina on both sides of this frosty finished example, with splashes of olive-russet color here and there. The strike is as close to full as one should expect for a Trade Dollar, and the mostly abrasion-free surfaces are at the upper reaches of the MS64 grade level. A not overly conspicuous distraction on the reverse rim outside the I in AMERICA is noted as a pedigree marker. The penultimate CC-mint issue in the Trade Dollar series, the '77-CC was produced to the extent of just 534,000 coins. Most Mint State survivors, and there are very few of them, grade no finer than MS63. NGC and PCGS have seen just 11 coins in MS64, with a mere two finer (1/02). (NGC ID# 253D, PCGS# 7045)
