Abdul Aziz assumed the throne following the Crimean War and would rule for 15 years before his deposition. Aziz was the first Sultan to travel diplomatically, embarking on a European Tour in 1867, in addition to establishing the Istanbul Archaeology Museum, reorganizing Istanbul University, and issuing the first Turkish postage stamps.
