    Description

1864 Large Motto Two Cent, MS67 Red
One of the Finest Two Cents Known

1864 2C Large Motto MS67 Red PCGS. This remarkable Superb Gem is tied with one other for the finest 1864 Large Motto at PCGS, but its importance transcends this one issue. In the entire two cent series, PCGS has certified only four coins as MS67, including this piece and its numerically equal Red counterpart, a single MS67 Brown representative of this same date, and an MS67 Red 1865 coin (6/15). The strike is boldly executed with a thick, frosty finish on the coppery-orange surfaces. There are no distracting abrasions and carbon spotting is nonexistent, save for a single small speck in the lower-right portion of the shield. A radiant cartwheel effect is produced when the coin is rotated beneath a light.
