1864 Two Cent Piece, MS65 Red and Brown
Popular Small Motto Type

1864 2C Small Motto, FS-401, MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. Two cent pieces were initially issued in 1864 with two major types, the Small Motto that is offered here, and the more frequently encountered Large Motto. These Small Motto coins are considered the first issues of the year, and the mintage was a small part of the nearly 20 million two cent pieces struck that year. Just 15% of all 1864 coins submitted to PCGS are Small Motto pieces. This fully lustrous Gem has substantial mint red remaining on both sides, intermingled with splashes of blue-brown toning.
