Description

1864 Small Motto Two Cent Piece
MS66 Red and Brown

1864 2C Small Motto, FS-401, MS66 Red and Brown NGC. Considerable woodgrain effect dominates each side, although there is still more orange than brown appearing throughout. As a high-Mint State Small Motto example, this piece should find a ready home. The S in TRUST is surprisingly softly struck, to the point of near-invisibility, likely due to a filled die cavity. On the reverse a wispy die crack joins the ribbons of the bowknot. This is a well-struck piece, free from visible impairments. Census: 16 in 66 Red and Brown, 0 finer (6/16).
Ex: Summer FUN Signature (Heritage, 7/2011), lot 3202.
