1864 Small Motto Two Cent Piece
MS66 Red and Brown
1864 2C Small Motto, FS-401, MS66 Red and Brown NGC.
Attributed on the holder as FS-000.5. An unknown, but obviously
limited quantity of this desirable first year variety was produced
from a single pair of dies. While several hundred Mint State pieces
are known, rarely are they found in top grades. This glossy,
silky-smooth representative is only modestly mellowed with dappled
violet patina on the reverse. The coin's outstanding quality and
originality are instantly recognizable. Census: 16 in 66 Red and
Brown, 0 finer (2/25).Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 2/2005), lot 5627.
