Description

1869 FS-301 Two Cent, MS66 Red
Tied for Finest Certified, Color Rarity

1869 2C Repunched and Misplaced Date, FS-301, MS66 Red NGC. The tops of 18 are repunched, an errant 1 protrudes from the dentils below the primary 1, and a die scratch occurs under the 6. This Cherrypicker's Guide variety should command a significant premium as the likely finest-known example of FS-301, and more broadly, one of the best-preserved 1869 two cent coins at both services. Lustrous copper-orange surfaces show occasional rose accents and myriad die polish lines in the fields. Fully struck and clearly high-end for the grade. Encapsulated in a former generation, pre-barcode holder. Census: 2 in 66 Red, 0 finer (8/16).
