Description

1872 Two Cent, MS66 Red and Brown
Tied for Finest at Both Services

1872 2C MS66 Red and Brown PCGS. This is the singular circulation-strike key date in the short-lived two cent series. The Mint limited production to a mere 65,000 pieces, and PCGS reports 775 grading events across all grades and color categories. The vast majority of survivors are reported in grades ranging from Very Good to About Uncirculated. All Mint State coins are scarce. This Premium Gem is one of the finest examples any collector could hope to locate.

Fiery-orange color melds with deeper shades of steel-blue and magenta. Hints of semiprooflikeness are apparent in the fields, and the strike is pinpoint-sharp. The reverse shows some interesting die cracks toward the lower border. Population: 4 in 66 Red and Brown, 0 finer (2/19).(Registry values: N2998)
