Description

1872 Two Cent, Bold MS66 Red
Tied for Finest Certified

1872 2C MS66 Red PCGS Secure. The wonderfully preserved surfaces showcase amber-red and golden-bronze coloration with occasional ice-blue highlights. Glowing luster swirls over each side. The impression is bold, particularly on the wreath leaves, and all shield lines are clearly delineated. This is a lovely Premium Gem representative with no mentionable signs of handling.

This is the final circulation strike issue in the series, as only proofs were produced in 1873, the year the denomination was abolished. The 1872 is also by far the lowest-mintage date among regular issues in the short-lived two cent series. Only 65,000 coins were manufactured. Population: 3 in 66 Red, 0 finer (3/16).
