1873 Two Cent, PR64 Red and Brown
    Original Strike, Closed 3

1873 2C Closed 3 PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Ex: Teich Family Collection. The Closed 3 Variety was confirmed as "original" by checking known 1873 proof sets in the ANS archives, the Smithsonian, and in a presentation set given to Charles A. Whitney in 1874. Restrikes issued in later years featured an Open 3.

This near-Gem example has satin luster on smooth surfaces with glowing orange margins and purple-brown centers. A bright-orange band crosses the reverse between ten and two o'clock. Sharply struck, this attractive proof has no significant contact marks or other signs of post-mint handling.
