Description
Impressive 1867 Cyrus Field Medal, Julian-PE-10
1867 Cyrus Field Medal. PE-10. Copper. 103 mm. Engraved by William Barber. Struck in two time periods, the first gold medal was struck in April 1868 and lost in a Treasury Department safe. The second striking period was in December 1868 (the first gold medal was finally found in 1874). This is a massive and highly impressive Mint medal. Only the slightest friction is noted over the high points of Field's portrait.Auction Info
