Major General Peter S. Porter Medal, Julian-MI-18, Original Dies, MS63 NGC. Bronzed copper, 65 mm, 132.6 gm. Dies engraved by Moritz Fürst. Obverse bust right, MAJOR GENERAL PETER B. PORTER around, FURST.F. below truncation. Reverse winged Victory holding banners inscribed ERIE, CHIPPEWA, and NIAGARA (much double-punching visible here), dictating to muse of History, RESOLUTION OF CONGRESS NOVEMBER 3, 1814 around, in exergue BATTLES OF CHIPPEWA. JULY 5.1814 / NIAGARA. JULY 25.1814. / ERIE. SEPT. 17.1814., FURST F. at lower edge. This lustrous and pleasing milk-chocolate-brown piece is produced from the original reverse die, identified by SEP. 17 recut over SEO. 16. Moderate scattered carbon precludes a finer grade, most noticeable on the obverse highpoint of Porter's temple. Accompanied by an NGC Photo Certificate.
