Rare 1911 Theodore Roosevelt Medal1911 Theodore Roosevelt Medal. Crudely cast in a white metal alloy, 74 mm, 169.5 gm. Obverse: bust of President Roosevelt facing left with THEODORE ROOSEVELT at the periphery. Reverse: NEW ORLEANS PROGRESSIVE UNION around with OCTOBER 26, / 1905 / MARCH 11, / 1911 in the center. This interesting artifact was likely prepared by the New Orleans Progressive Union, the forerunner of their Chamber of Commerce, to commemorate visits by President Roosevelt to their city. The obverse was taken by a direct transfer from Roosevelt's official 1905 inaugural medal, which was designed by Charles E. Barber. Due to the method of manufacture the obverse is weakly defined. The reverse text is incuse and was apparently prepared by hand. Scattered tin pest throughout.
