    Description

High Grade 1864 Lincoln and Johnson Medal. Baker-383c, King-77e. Thin planchet. White metal, 32.3 mm, 8.4 gm. Dies by W.H. Key. Splendid cartwheel luster radiates from both sides of this unusually high-end survivor. We observe a 3-mm patch of roughness in the upper reverse field, which is actually the result of a metal flow problem--the area on the obverse opposite the void is the high relief of Lincoln's bust--and does not affect the technical grade. A tiny rim tick at 5 o'clock on the reverse is noted for the sake of full disclosure. Obverse: bust of Lincoln facing left, date below with LINCOLN & JOHNSON UNION CANDIDATES around. The reverse reads FREEDOM TO ALL MEN / UNION, with a 5-pointed star and a small bust facing right of Washington in the center.
