Description

Republic 5-Piece Certified copper Pattern Proof Set 1870 NGC,
1) Doblon PR64 Brown, KM-Pn31
2) Doblon PR63 Brown, cf. KM-Pn31 (there gilt)
3) 5 Pesos PR64 Brown, KM-Pn29
4) 2 Pesos PR64 Brown, KM-Pn28
5) Peso PR65 Brown, KM-Pn27. 16mm.

An astounding and rarely, if ever, seen set from the highly regarded Pattern series of 1870, featuring the Peso through Doblon in a most commendable tier of preservation. Struck in preparation of a newly proposed monetary system that deviated from the colonial Reales/Escudos, where Uruguay had adopted the Gold Standard by coinage law of 1862. While each pieces appears to be of the copper variety, the PR64 Doblon displays clear remnants of a prior gilt surface, with scattered gold flakes still clinging to the edges. Altogether a set of historic importance to the collector of the fleeting 19th century Uruguayan series.
