Description

Barinas-Caujaral Chipi Chipi "146", KM 2. octagonal shaped (klippe-style planchet) cob-style "1" Real with fantasy date "146" from the period 1817-1824. These fascinating silver pieces were known as chipi chipi even during the period when General Antonio Paez had them produced in West-Central Venezuela. This is the first attractive example we recall seeing! The stylized lions and castles could be extensively studied, as well as seven of the areas of the crossbar sectional. An absolutely wonderful numismatic treasure with its story yet untold.
From The Dana Roberts Collection.
