Description

1916-S Half Dollar, MS65
First-Year Branch Mint Issue

1916-S 50C MS65 PCGS. In addition to its status as a first-year issue, the 1916-S half dollar has the lowest mintage of the three mints from that year (508,000 coins). Mint State grades are challenging, and examples finer than MS65 are conditionally rare. This Gem displays satiny luster on lilac-silver surfaces accented with tiny splashes of iridescent lavender, plum and emerald. The obverse is well-struck while the reverse exhibits typical softness. PCGS reports only 23 numerically finer pieces (3/26).(Registry values: N2998)
