Description

1917-S Half Dollar, AU58
Obverse Mintmark

1917-S 50C Obverse Mintmark AU58 PCGS. The second-year issue of Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty design produced two half dollar varieties differentiated by mintmark placement. This near-Mint example features the obverse mintmark, and is the last year to do so, with future issues having reverse mintmarks. This generally brilliant piece is well-struck with lightly mottled russet and caramel toning on the edges. Liberty's left leg (right facing) shows a minor horizontal mark, and the eagle's left wing (right facing) shows a small reed mark, otherwise imperfections are consistent with the grade and not bothersome. Significant amounts of original luster remain and yield impressive visual presentation.(Registry values: N1793)
