Description

1917-S Walking Liberty Half, MS65
Scarce Obverse Mintmark Example

1917-S 50C Obverse MS65 PCGS. CAC. Ex: The Dakota Collection. Obverse mintmark. Mint records show just 952,000 1917-S half dollars were struck with the obverse mintmark, followed by more than five times that quantity with the reverse mintmark. Among the early-date Walkers, the 1917-S Obverse ranks as one of key issues both by the number of grading events and certainly by its strong demand.

This is a frosty example with pale-gold toning across both sides and irrepressible mint luster. Hints of rose color appear at the high points and along the obverse margin. Only tiny marks are seen even with a glass -- in hand, the surfaces appear impeccable. PCGS reports just four coins in numerically finer grades. Population: 38 in 65, 4 finer. CAC: 7 in 65, 1 finer (6/16).
