Description

Sharply Struck 1918-D Half, MS64

1918-D 50C MS64 NGC. Beginning in 1918 and continuing for almost 10 years, the Denver mint had a practice of lengthening die life by setting the dies further apart than optimal. This undoubtedly worked, but the resultant coins almost universally lack highpoint definition. That is the case for the 1918-D half also; however, this particular piece shows uncharacteristically strong central details. The mint luster is strong and frosted, and each side shows just the slightest accent of light golden-rose color. (Registry values: N2998)
