Description

1919-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar, MS63
Conditionally Rare in Higher Grades

1919-D 50C MS63 PCGS. The 1919-D Walking Liberty half dollar boasts a low mintage of 1.1 million pieces, and the issue is quite elusive in Mint State grades. At the Select Mint State level, the 1919-D is certainly very scarce, but examples can be located with patience. In grades above the Gem level, the 1919-D is considered the rarest date of the series.
The condition rarity of the date is partially explained by its typically poor strike. The definition is almost never complete on Liberty's hand or head, and the eagle's leg is softly rendered. The present coin shows some softness in all these areas, but the detail seems better-than-average. The surfaces are brightly lustrous and show few abrasions for the grade. Population: 51 in 63, 75 finer (8/10).
