Description

1919-S Half Dollar, MS66
Condition Census CAC Coin
A Major Series Condition Rarity

1919-S 50C MS66 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Charles Schultz. The 1919-S is a better date among Walking Liberty half dollars, and Gem-quality coins are particularly scarce. This CAC-endorsed Premium Gem is at the top of the ladder for a PCGS-graded coin, and only a single NGC piece is numerically finer (6/16). The strike is a trifle soft on Liberty's branch hand and the eagle's trailing leg, as usual. But the satiny mint luster and its delicate lavender and champagne toning imparts pleasing eye appeal. The coin is well-preserved.

Including at least a couple of duplications, our Permanent Auction Archives show only six previous offerings of a Premium Gem 1919-S half dollar. The only one of those appearances in the recent past was a PCGS CAC coin that was sold in the ANA Signature sale (Heritage, 8/2015), lot 4128, for the amount of $42,300. The present coin is every bit as significant in terms of rarity and quality, and the eye appeal is arguably superior. Population: 11 in 66, 0 finer. CAC: 3 in 66, 0 finer (6/16).
