Spectacular Gem 1921 Half

1921 50C MS65 NGC. The post-World War I recession year of 1921 saw a substantial drop in the quantity of coins produced for circulation, and though almost all denominations experienced this fall to some degree, the half dollar was affected more dramatically than most. Between the three active mints of the time, total production of half dollars amounted to only slightly over a million pieces, and fewer than a quarter-million halves were struck at Philadelphia. The Gem offered here is one of the best-preserved survivors from that low-mintage issue, well-defined with occasional whispers of golden toning over immensely lustrous silver-white surfaces. Census: 30 in 65, 2 finer (7/08).(Registry values: N4719)
