Important 1921-S Half Dollar, Choice AU

1921-S 50C AU55 PCGS. After World War I, the mintage of half dollars dropped precipitously, and all three 1921 Walkers are scarce in any grade. Although five different dates have lower mintages, the 1921-S ranks as the rarest issue in the series in grades above Fine. This date seems to have been largely ignored by contemporary collectors and is now quite rare in high grades.
The present piece has a lovely ring of hazel toning on the rims that contrasts nicely against the brilliant centers. There are no mentionable marks on either side, and eye-catching luster flashes in the fields. Liberty's head and the centers are a trifle soft, but the rest of the details are boldly defined. An attractive example of this highly desirable key date.(Registry values: N4719)
