Description

1921-S Half, MS63
The Key to the Walking Liberty Series

1921-S 50C MS63 PCGS. CAC. The 1921-S half is one of the transcendent rarities that is well-known to collectors in other specialties. Its true rarity became apparent around 1975 when a Gem sold at auction for $10,000--an unheard of price for a Walking Liberty half. It has been a steady climb upward since. Examples are rare in all conditions of Mint State and one cannot afford to be too picky when a nice 1921-S comes onto the market. This piece has the usual softness on the head of Liberty, but the hand and skirt lines are well defined. The mint luster is softly frosted and there are few marks for an MS63 coin, just a couple of minor ones in the right obverse field. Each side has a layer of light golden-rose toning that further enhances the coin's eye appeal. Population: 33 in 63, 61 finer (8/10).
