Description
1921-S Walking Liberty Half, MS64
Low-Mintage Key Issue
1921-S 50C MS64 PCGS. CAC. From a low mintage of 548,000
pieces, the 1921-S Walking Liberty half dollar is the most elusive
issue of the series in absolute terms. Apparently, contemporary
numismatists were not alerted by the small production total and few
high-quality examples were saved at the time of issue. Perhaps
collectors concentrated on the Philadelphia and Denver issues of
this date, which have even lower reported mintage totals, but are
slightly more available in today's market. In any case, the 1921-S
is very scarce at the MS64 grade level and finer coins are
rare. The present coin is an impressive Choice specimen that shows better detail on Liberty's head and wreath hand than usually seen on this issue, which is known as a strike rarity. The brightly lustrous surfaces show only minor signs of contact, with attractive highlights of champagne-gold and lavender-gray toning. Population: 51 in 64 (2 in 64+), 18 finer. CAC: 8 in 64, 5 finer (6/16).
