    Description

    1927-S Walking Liberty Half, MS66
Vibrant Luster, Tied for Finest Known

1927-S 50C MS66 PCGS. CAC. Due to the moderate availability of lower grades in this issue, the extreme rarity of Premium Gem 1927-S half dollars is often overlooked by nonspecialists. In reality, the availability of this date begins to decline at the MS65 level, and in MS66 only seven coins at PCGS and a single piece at NGC survive; none are known finer (6/15). Of these, only three -- including the present coin -- have received endorsements from CAC. This piece is aglow with brilliant, frosty luster that shows the occasional splash of golden toning over the interiors. The eagle's central feathers are a trifle soft, but Liberty's branch hand shows partial thumb separation. Several light, grade-limiting surface grazes are restricted to the high points of Liberty's figure and pose little if any distraction. Ideal for Registry purposes or for inclusion in a high-end private collection.

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
