Description

1938-D Walking Liberty Half, MS67+
Tied for Finest Known

1938-D 50C MS67+ PCGS. The 1938-D is a better date within late-series issues, a status that stems from its limited mintage of 491,600 coins. For most collectors, this issue is much more plentiful than "better date" would suggest, as it is just as available as many other dates in grades through MS66. However, advanced Registry collectors find this issue a challenge. Superb Gems are scarce, and the finest examples -- a handful of coins in MS67+ -- are notably rare. This top-grade coin is well-struck and displays near-flawless, frosty mint luster. Tinges of gold appear in the margins, leaving the interiors ivory-white. Population: 11 in 67+, 0 finer (6/23).(Registry values: N2998)
