    Description

    1917-S Walking Liberty Half, MS65
    Scarce Obverse Mintmark Example
Seldom Offered in Full Gem Condition

1917-S 50C Obverse Mintmark MS65 PCGS. The 1917-S is one of the key Walking Liberty issues regardless of grade, but especially in high Mint State condition. It becomes scarce in near-Gem condition, and rare in full Gem condition, both in an absolute sense and by demand. Fewer than 90 pieces are certified in MS65 and finer grades -- hardly sufficient to satisfy the vast number of collectors pursuing an advanced collection of Walking Liberty halves.

This is a brilliant Gem coin, with the characteristic flat rims and vibrant, satinlike silver surfaces that draw the greatest attention of series specialists. Marks are limited to a pair of microscopic, pinpoint ticks below S of PLURIBUS on the reverse -- hardly worth mention, but the only marks of any kind attributable to post-Mint origin. The strike is sharp as often seen for this well-produced issue, and eye appeal satisfies even the highest expectations. Population: 45 in 65, 4 finer (10/19).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 26G7, PCGS# 6572)

    Weight: 12.50 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
