    Gem 1932-D Washington Quarter
    Virtually the Finest Obtainable

1932-D 25C MS65 PCGS. For many aficionados of the series (and they are many indeed), "Gem 1932-D Washington quarter" might be sufficient description. This piece is nonetheless nice enough that it might entice some new collectors into the fold. (This is not merely idle chatter; for its life, the Statehood quarters were undoubtedly America's most popular numismatic series, and they drew many new fans to "collect backwards" into the classic Washington quarter set.) The frosty surfaces on each side show patina more dominant on the obverse, with shades of amber, cherry, and charcoal closer to the rim and silver at the center. The reverse shows a tad of lilac and charcoal on the mintmark and lower reverse, although a loupe reveals some near-imperceptible iridescent color throughout that side, as well. The eagle's breast shows a couple of reeding marks from coin-to-coin contact, and the obverse portrait displays a couple of thin scrapes, strictly consistent with the grade and undistracting. This Gem represents the finest numeric grade practically obtainable, as only one piece at PCGS has attained the ultimate MS66 level. Population: 63 in 65, 1 finer (3/12).
