Description
1932-S Quarter Dollar, MS66
Satiny and Deeply Toned
Top-Grade Registry Set Rarity
1932-S 25C MS66 NGC. The 1932-S Washington quarter is nearly
as rare in MS66 as its Denver counterpart. Only 11 pieces are
reported in this grade with none finer by NGC and PCGS combined,
which possibly includes duplication (4/19). This is the first time
this coin -- or any 1932-S quarter in MS66 -- has appeared at
auction since 2014. The auction record for the date was set in our
January 2013 FUN Signature sale, where a PCGS CAC coin garnered
$35,250. Of the handful of top-grade coins that we have seen, the
present is perhaps the most deeply toned around the peripheries,
where vivid orange-gold, lilac-gray, crimson, and olive-russet hues
circumnavigate the borders. The interiors display warm golden
patina. This is a sharp and appealing example of the date, a prime
Registry Set contender. Census: 7 in 66, 0 finer (4/19).Ex: ANA Signature (Heritage, 7-8/2008), lot 1655, which realized $10,925; Americana Sale (Stack's Bowers, 2/2014), lot 1189, which realized $15,275.(Registry values: N2998)
