Description

1932-S Quarter Dollar, MS66+
Top-Grade Registry Coin
The Sole Finest Certified

1932-S 25C MS66+ PCGS. CAC. Lovely iridescence engulfs the left obverse field and adjacent borders above and below Washington's portrait. Brilliant luster characterizes the remainder of the coin, encompassing the reverse. Exceptional strike sharpness on the portrait and largely clean surfaces add to the eye appeal and technical merits of this piece.
The 1932-S is one of the two key issues in the Washington series. It is more available in the top MS66 grade than its Denver counterpart, although it is still conditionally rare this fine. PCGS and NGC combined report only 20 grading events in MS66, with just three of them endorsed by CAC. Moreover, only the current coin is Plus designated, making it the sole finest 1932-S quarter certified. It is an ideal Registry coin.
Including duplicate appearances of a few pieces, we have seen a 1932-S in this grade on only 14 prior occasions. The certified populations likely also include duplications, meaning that this issue is even rarer in the top grade than it appears at first glance. Only half of the coins we have seen appeared at auction within the last decade. In fact, most current high-ranking Registry Sets lack a 1932-S in MS66, opting instead for the more accessible MS65 or MS65+ grades. For any Registry Set, a 1932-S in MS66 is a mark of distinction, and it is a distinction most collections will necessarily lack due to the rarity of the coins in that grade. Offered here is not only a chance to acquire a Premium Gem example, but to acquire the sole top-grade coin with a Plus designation. We anticipate strong demand when this coin crosses the auction block. PCGS Population: 11 in 66 (1 in 66+), 0 finer (6/26). CAC: 3 in 66, 0 finer (6/26).(Registry values: N2998)
