Description
1942-D Washington Quarter, MS66
Highest Numerical Grade for FS-801
1942-D 25C Doubled Die Reverse, FS-801, MS66 PCGS. The most
visible attribute of this variety is strong doubling on the wreath
below the eagle, and there is also evident doubling on the eagle's
beak and on the talons. This Premium Gem quarter is sharply struck
and is essentially brilliant with only faint traces of champagne
and iridescent toning. Frosty luster is quite complementary and
provides strong, attractive eye appeal. PCGS reports no numerically
finer FS-801 specimens, and we have not seen an example this fine
in auction for 15 years, making this a top attraction for serious
variety collections (4/25). Population: 1 in 66, 0 finer
(4/25).Ex: Palm Beach Signature (Heritage, 11/2004), lot 6790; Central States Signature (Heritage, 5/2005), lot 7805.
