    Description

    1943-S 'Goiter' Washington Quarter, MS64
    Seldom-Seen FS-401 Cherrypickers' Variety

1943-S 25C Goiter, FS-401, MS64 PCGS. Per the fifth edition of Cherrypickers', "Severe deterioration of the obverse die occurred due to unknown causes. Washington's mouth and chin are flat and lack definition; the area below his jaw is sunken while the area of field in front of his Adam's apple is buckled upward. ... This variety has been known for decades, but it is apparently rare, as few have surfaced." This near-Gem shows frosty silver surfaces that are perhaps finer than they would appear at first glance, due to the noted die deterioration. Some areas on the reverse seem softly struck due to their opposition to the problem areas on the obverse. Population: 9 in 64, 2 finer (11/15). (Variety PCGS# 511572, Base PCGS# 5822)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
